Architectural Design Technology
Architectural design is crucial in producing architects who can think critically, creatively, collaborate effectively and design sustainably. The discipline is fundamental in shaping the built environment which impacts society, culture, and the environment.
The Department of Architectural Design Technology was established in 2007 under the Civil Technology Faculty. Since the department’s inception, it has taught undergraduate technicians in architectural design technology through regular, summer and extension programs for technical teacher education as well as for professionals in the industry. The department provides short-term training to TVET teachers who are already engaged by various TVET institutions as well as those who are employed by various companies around the country, in addition to the aforementioned long-term programs. The department’s lone undergraduate program is Architectural Design Technology, and it is exploring starting master’s degree programs in the field.
Objectives of the Program
Technology of Architecture in Ethiopian experience has a short history. Review of the Architectural and Urban Planning practices shows that less than a quarter of the recognized urban centers have no plans to guide their spatial development.
The development of urbanization and the expansion of the building industry in Ethiopia are significantly hampered by the lack of competent labor in the field of architecture. The creation of the B.Sc. degree in Architectural Design Technology program at TVTI in the Faculty of Civil Technology aims to meet professional demands in the field of Architectural Design Technology both locally and nationally.
Vision of the Department
In terms of creating conceptual thinkers and highly qualified technical teachers in the field of architecture, the Department will set an example. Additionally, the department will establish itself as a leader in architectural technology teaching, research, consulting, and being sensitive to the unique requirements of the Ethiopian economy.
