Department of water works construction was established in 2007 under the faculty of civil Technology. Since then it continued to offer regular and extension undergraduate studies and short term training to trainees at the middle level and teachers of technical and vocational education and training colleges in the country. The department currently has two undergraduate programs (Water supply and sanitary Technology, and Water works and Irrigation Technology) and one post graduate program in the field of Water Supply and Sanitary Technology.

Water works construction technology program shall have the following goals;
● Ensure the quality of education and training in water construction technology
● Advance research, technology transfer and consultancy works in the construction industry

Objectives of the Program and Competency Profile
This program is aimed at training manpower required for the realization of the country’s vast hydropower, water supply and water resources potential. Well-qualified water technologists will be produced through this program who can actively be engaged in the planning; design, development and management of water works construction technology. Specifically, the trainees will be equipped with the knowledge that enables them to execute the following
Tasks:
● Undertake project identification; pre-feasibility and feasibility studies of water constructions
● Prepare complete contract documents for water construction projects like hydropower projects, water supply projects, Irrigation projects, and projects which are related with environmental protection work;
● Plan, design and manage and supervise the construction of hydraulic and hydropower structures and related civil engineering works;
● Remodeling and rehabilitation of existing water supply, hydraulic and hydropower systems.
