EASTRIP gave briefing for management body of the Institute on its annual plan

East Africa Skill for Transformation and Regional Integration Program (EASTRIP) is a five-year project with $24.45M budget financed by World Bank. Its aim is to create center of excellence for manufacturing and leather technologies in East Africa, particularly in Ethiopian, Kenya and Tanzania.
The project began its work with four major objectives; the first one is Increase access and equity to TVET programs, the second objective is improving quality and relevance of TVET, Institutional capacity building and system development is the third objective of a project. The fourth is supporting regional integration.
In this week, in two phases, EASTRIP had made a discussion with management body members, finance and procurement directorate officials on its first-year activities and annual plan. 
Mr. Haftom G/egziabher, Deputy Director General for Academics and Head of the project, on his opening speech says that this project will change TVET sector of Ethiopia. And more, Federal TVET Institute will be benefited from it to achieve its vision, to be internationally competitive higher education. To do so the project started implementation by building modern training classes and students’ dormitories.
Mr. Haftom added that ‘the one and main problem in TVET sector in Ethiopia is lack of awareness. To tackle this problem and to transform the sector this project will actively work awareness creation’ 
Mr. Sahilesilasie Teka, project coordinator, presented first year activities and the annual plan. As he Says, some of the main focus issues of this year plan will be assessment study on the TVET sector, managerial and academic staff training, short term training for TVET teachers, training for Industry technicians, curriculum and occupational standard (OS) development.
