Objectives of the Program

The world of work is influenced through a rapid technological innovation and changes in the organisation of the work system. The development and application of new technology in the field of railway technology at municipality, rolling stock operation, maintenance, overhauling technology, etc. supporting and generates new tasks in every occupational system in the world. Therefore, there is a need for developing a new TVET teacher study programme with respect to the national and international situation. The new study programme is oriented on the state of the art technology in the field of railway technology, the needs in the labour market and the reforms and challenges in the TVET system in Ethiopia.

Skilled workers in the field of railway technology must be able to find solutions to new complex and challenging technical problems. They must have strong theoretical knowledge and technical skills to be able to integrate technical concepts with practical applications. Thus TVET teachers need profound theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the occupational field and also pedagogical competence.


General Objectives

The general objectives of the study programme are:

  • To educate future TVET professionals with a broad competence based in technology, the work system and TVET;
  • To train high level of trainers and technical manpower which can participate in the national development activities;
  • To carry out research in technological fields, TVET and other relevant areas to the needs of the country;
  • To render consultancy services to the community, especially in technical vocational education and training.


Specific Objectives

The specific objectives of the study programme are:

  • To prepare students for career opportunities in TVET colleges or other training institutions, in-company training or continuing training;
  • To provide fundamental knowledge and skills in planning, conducting and evaluating learning arrangements and processes in TVET;
  • To shape on the development and modernization of the TVET systems;
  • To provide fundamental knowledge in mathematics, general sciences, and railway technology;
  • To provide in-depth knowledge in an area of specialisation field of study railway technology as holistic.
  • To provide skills for teaching in design, installation, operation and maintenance of rolling stock, of equipment operation, facilities maintenance,  and other areas of Railway Technology;
  • To provide implicit understanding of the social and ethical responsibilities;
  • To enable graduates work in teams in addressing technical problems or educational issues which may be encountered in real life;
  • To engage students in research that offers optimal solutions to technical problems in the industry or educational issues in TVET.
